A few days ago, We Women for Expo, a completely feminine global network, introduced the Women’s Weeks, two weeks full of events entirely dedicated to women that will take place from June 29th to July 10th inside the Universal Exposition.
Emma Bonino, the president of Women for Expo, presented the program by saying: “The theme of Expo – Feeding the planet, Energy for life – has the “women” dimension as its center. Not only because women are, naturally and historically, the first agents of nutrition, but also because nowadays they are a big part of the agricultural producers. This is why we need to grant them equal rights, from the access to loans to the property of lands, until we reach full equality in front of the law”.
The aim of “Women’s Weeks – The other half of the Planet” is to put the female population in the middle of the themes of Expo Milan: nutrition, food safety, and sustainable development, starting from the assumption that women are actual pillars of the agricultural systems worldwide.
Therefore, a promotion of the role and the potential of women in a domestic, social and productive environment, strictly connected to the reinforcement of human rights and the guarantee of food safety on a global level.
In the program of these two weeks there will be conferences, debates, and moments of pure entertainment, meaning readings, meetings, shows, and performances. The feeding will be interpreted as an enrichment of mind and soul thanks to the precious contributions of female artists, writers, actresses, singers, and entrepreneurs that will come from all around the world.
It will end on July 10th with Beijing Plus 20, to consider the situation of women’s rights twenty years after Beijing’s Fourth World Conference on women.
