I will be honest, I am not one of the classic girls who were already dreaming of their wedding when they were children, with their own Prince Charming and a princess-like dress for the fatidic “I do” moment.
To be honest, I never thought about it until a short while ago, not because I didn’t care, but because the right person hadn’t arrived yet. Yes, because a woman knows when her true love, the one with a capital L, arrives. Call it sixth sense, female intuition, but a woman knows it, feels it!
And I knew it when I met my future husband. He and I, we are very different but we make each other complete and maybe our differences are what makes us inseparable now. Basically, we are the so-called “other half of the apple” to each other.
Other reasons why I chose to marry him? Well, there are many:
- I make long-time plans with him
- He listens to me and truly supports me
- We trust each other
- My happiness and his are one and the same
- He gets along with my family
- I share everything that happens to me with him
- He makes me feel free
- He bears with me and accepts my flaws
Besides, he is a lovely person, who can make me laugh (and this is fundamental to me) and make me truly happy, even just with small gestures.
The nice thing is I hadn’t been looking for him, but he arrived all the same, almost six years ago now and since then, we never left each other. So we decided that September 3rd, 2016, will be our big day!
It will be a typical Italian wedding, with a completely personal touch. The religious ceremony will take place in the morning, followed by a reception with plenty of food, as it is the tradition here in Italy and by lots of fun with relatives and friends.
I am already busy with the organization, because everything needs to be perfect and because, let’s be frank, there are infinite things to think about: location, clothing, photographer, florist, invitations, favors, tableau de mariage, placeholders, rings, makeup, hairdo and much more!
Luckily, this is not the first time I plan a wedding, so I know what to do and when to do it but it is our big day and this makes everything a bit more complicated, and surely makes me happy, as well as healthily anxious.
Obviously, I will keep you updated through My Lovely Italy. Maybe you will find some ideas to organize your own Italian-like wedding, or maybe even come get married here in Italy.
Meanwhile, would you like to tell me if your reasons to get married are the same as mine? Write about it in the comments underneath.
All the best!
